CAMMEO

DISCOVERING A PRECIOUS GOLDSMITH’S ART

The cameo has long played a central role in the history of Italian jewellery. Stone and shell carving has ancient roots: the first samples of cameos date back to the Hellenistic period.

During the Renaissance, prominent Italian artists devoted themselves to this unique form of art, that consists in manually removing, using specific chisels, portions of a multi-layered stone or shell to create a bas-relief drawing.

Consistently with our culture and our specific interest in reinterpreting Italian figurative tradition and art, Utopia cameos are representing the most beautiful artworks by Italian master painters and artists: “the Angels” by Raffaello, “The women” by Leonardo and many others.
